China Cuts Tariffs on Nearly 1,000 Products Starting January 2026

China has implemented significant tariff reductions on 935 imported products effective January 1, 2026, marking a strategic shift in its trade policy. The Customs Tariff Commission announced these provisional rates will fall below standard Most-Favored-Nation levels to strengthen domestic industries and enhance supply chain resilience.

domestic industries and enhance supply chain resilience.

The tariff cuts target critical sectors, including advanced technology components, green energy materials, and healthcare products.

Notable reductions include intelligent bionic robots, lithium-ion battery materials, bio-aviation fuel, and medical devices such as artificial blood vessels.

Key Highlights:

  1. 935 products get reduced tariffs
  2. Focus on tech, healthcare, and green energy
  3. Cotton and wool importation will have a tariff reduction from 6% to 1%
  4. Zero-tariff access for 43 least-developed countries
  5. More affordable raw hides for leather units and footwear

This policy aims to support China’s technological self-reliance and accelerate its green transformation amid ongoing global trade tensions. The adjustments also reflect Beijing’s focus on supply-side economic reforms rather than consumer-led recovery.
